A origem da palavra é: "emoção" derivado do latim emovere, onde e- (variante de ex-) significa "para fora" e movere significa "passar". leva-te a entender que é algo que "passas para fora". Ora, uma emoção é a reacção a um estímulo, seja interno ou externo.
Consoante o estímulo podemos sentir várias emoções, e o mesmo estímulo pode ser vivido de forma diferente, isto é, não é vivido com a mesma emoção.
